Frequency nostalgia
Channel Z was the best radio station around when I was growing up. Bomber’s Late Night Talk Show on Sunday evenings was something I listened to throughout my teenage years, and was often the highlight of many a dull week. I listened right up to the bitter end when the station became defunct in about 2002 or so. Its frequency has since been adopted by the Government-backed failure Kiwi-FM, and is currently home to some crappy Edge-like station, I think.
As far as a “Where are they now?” type thing, Jacquie Brown is now a regular roving reporter on Campbell Live, Bomber is (apparently) running for Mayor of Auckland City, and James Coleman will soon be appearing on TV3’s new breakfast television programme.
There have been numerous attempts to resuscitate the corpse of Z, but none have been successful. The most recent in a number of rather haphazard Internet petitions seems to be a group on Facebook. Good luck guys!
